- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Very Different Experience From the 5 Star Reviews. Maybe I had a one-off experience. I owned a home that I rented out for part of my ownership, and lived in it the other part. I went to Menden because I initially did the return in Turbo Tax, but given it's more complex I then figured it would be better to have an experienced firm do it. Menden came back and said I owe over $9000 for Federal, when Turbo Tax said I was getting a small refund. I questioned the logic used, and found out they barely researched my case. I did the research myself on the IRS website and forwarded the appropriate method to them. They then came back and said 'oh yea, we see what you are saying, we updated it and now you get a $800 return'. If I would have blindly listened I would have been out over $9000. I decided to not use them and will just file myself, as after doing all the research I feel I can better document and submit than they can. Again, might have been a one-off experience, but I was extremely dissapointed in their lack of knowledge and effort spent.By Tyler Narveson, July 24, 2017
